When you use YouTube Spoiler, we process the following data:

  • Video IDs: The unique identifier of YouTube videos you request summaries for
  • Video Titles: The title of the video being summarized
  • Video Transcripts: The caption/subtitle text from videos (obtained from YouTube's public caption API)
  • Anonymous Usage ID: A randomly generated identifier (UUID) stored locally on your device to help us understand usage patterns

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Your name or email address
  • Your YouTube account information
  • Your browsing history outside of summary requests
  • Any personally identifiable information

How We Use Your Data

The data collected is used solely for:

  • Generating Summaries: Video transcripts are sent to our AI service (powered by Google Gemini) to generate summaries
  • Service Improvement: Anonymous usage data helps us understand how the extension is used and improve it

Data Storage & Retention

  • Transcripts: Processed in real-time and not permanently stored on our servers
  • Summaries: Cached temporarily in your browser for performance; cleared when you close the tab
  • Anonymous ID: Stored locally in your browser's extension storage; you can clear it by removing the extension
  • Usage Logs: Anonymous usage events may be retained for up to 90 days for analytics

Third-Party Services

YouTube Spoiler uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Gemini API: Powers our AI summarization. Transcripts are sent to Google's servers for processing. See Google's Privacy Policy
  • Google Cloud Run: Hosts our backend service
  • YouTube/Google: We fetch publicly available captions from YouTube's servers

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request information about data associated with your anonymous ID
  • Deletion: Remove the extension to delete all locally stored data
  • Opt-out: Simply don't use the extension if you don't agree with this policy

Children's Privacy

YouTube Spoiler is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
